Show Synopsis:
Casting for 5 roles – 3 female and 2 male – all are welcome to audition!
Character notes: All but one Pride@Prejudice actor will play multiple characters within the familiar Jane Austen Pride and Prejudice story. Each actor also has an “online identity” as a fourth-wall breaking performer within the play. The script has a foundation in Jane Austen’s novel, but also makes use of her letters and a wide range of public domain materials drawn and adapted from the internet, including postings on blogs, chat rooms, and discussion boards. Actors play roles from the novel, performers, a broad range of “internet characters,” and, in one case, Austen herself.
About the show: Watch Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy fall in love all over again – this time filtered through the world of the internet. Modern voices interject and build on this classic love story in the form of blog posts, chat room discussions, quotes from film adaptations, and even letters from Ms. Austen herself to create a delightfully postmodern view of 19th century England. Written for five actors to play every role, Pride@Prejudice is a hilarious and moving homage to Jane Austen’s most beloved novel, as well as our love affair with reading.
Audition preparation: This show relies on quick switches between characters, so please be prepared to showcase your ability to make characters distinct both vocally and in their physicality.
